Many websites incorporate a banner - the wide strip that runs along the top of a page. It provides a useful space for key elements such as your logo, login boxes, a search box and the menu. When planning your site, it's a good idea to have a look at lots of different sites to get a feel for styles you like - and of course those you don't.
